Långsamt rör jag mig i din riktning

Galleri Blunk, Trondheim, 1-3 april 2022 (solo)

The exhibition approaches a human fate, as it appears in fragments of memory, medical records, and photographs. A human destiny similar and different from all others, where the private becomes urgent for all of us.

The exhibition was made with support of the Swedish Arts Grants Committee.

I dina ögon får världen en annan spegling

Installation, fabric, sublime textile print, metal, 1x2 m, 2022

The installation shows two photographs that I found in Grandma’s old photo album. I try to capture a memory of a person’s life, and at the same time be aware that the memory I recreate will never be completely true. No matter how much we flip through our relatives’ photo albums and drag our thumbs over the worn photographs to try to get an insight into their lives, we still miss the bigger picture.

Sublime textile print, textile, metal, 40x10 cm, 2022

The medical records that I requested from the health service run from 1965 to 2002 and come from both Finland and various cities in northern Sweden.

Grandma's ECG results are included in each journal, like a heart flicker stretched out in time.

Gång på gång stiger älven, sköljer spåren ur ditt ansikte

Sublime textile print, fabric, glass, 7x10 cm and 8x13 cm, 2022

The river is something that comes up in interviews, medical records, and photographs when I try to find out who my grandmother was. The river can symbolize many different things; it dampens and hides, drifts around, is constantly in motion. In the water, things can come to the surface, lose direction, and be pulled by the force of the current. When the river freezes, it closes, but at the same time makes it possible to get to the other side. The river is as volatile as the memory itself.
